Research Interests

Rui is a bioinformatician with interests ranging from heart to neural development and cancer, by looking at publicly available data. In ICArEHB, he is looking to embrace a new challenge and broaden is spectrum of knowledge. Rui will be focusing in finding out the origin of the domesticated Opium poppy in Prehistoric Europe. To do so, he will cultivate, grow, collect and extract DNA and RNA from several poppy species from all over the world and analyse it bioinformatically.

Short Bio

Rui Machado did all is academic path in Universidade do Algarve. He has a degree in biology and a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences. Rui Machado has received his PhD in Regenerative Medicine and Chronic Diseases from a Doctoral program from Universidade do Algarve and Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2021. He is a biostatistician and bioinformatician that performed several different analysis of publicly available data in different fields of research.
