We are proud to share that the Interdisciplinary Center for Archaeology and Evolution of Human Behaviour (ICArEHB) has once again achieved the highest score in the provisional results of the Foundation for Science and Technology’s (FCT) evaluation of R&D Units, under the 2023/2024 Multiannual Programme for Financing R&D. In the words of the evaluation panel: “The unit has excelled in all of the areas identified in its activity plan”.

This evaluation reviewed the scientific and technological activities carried out between 2018 and 2023, as well as the Unit’s objectives, strategic vision, and organisational structure for the period 2025 to 2029.

The results reaffirm ICArEHB as a leading centre for archaeological science in Portugal and Europe. The evaluation also recognised that the structures in place for management, and the coherence and cohesion of its research teams, ensure that ICArEHB is consistently more than the sum of its parts.

We are honoured by this continued recognition and remain fully committed to pushing the boundaries of archaeological research and to training the next generation of scholars in human evolutionary studies.
