HEIRS Opening Symposium: A New Chapter in Human Evolution Research
On January 28 and 29, 2025, the University of Algarve in Faro will host the HEIRS (Human Evolution Research Synthesis) Opening Symposium, a groundbreaking event dedicated to promoting synthesis in human evolution research.
HEIRS, spearheaded by ICArEHB – The Interdisciplinary Center for Archaeology and the Evolution of Human Behaviour, aims to integrate data, bridge scientific disciplines, and challenge global theories to deepen our understanding of human evolutionary history.
Symposium Objectives
The inaugural symposium has three key goals:
- To foster collaborative synthesis approaches in human evolution research by bringing together experts from various disciplines.
- To introduce the functioning of HEIRS and the tools it will offer to researchers.
- To reflect on the challenges of synthesis in scientific research and propose innovative solutions.
An Outstanding Line-Up of Speakers
The event will feature a renowned panel of experts, including:
- Francesco d’Errico, University of Bordeaux, France
- Felix Riede, University of Aarhus, Denmark
- Allowen Evin, Institute of Sciences of Evolution Montpellier, France
- Philip Riris, Bournemouth University, United Kingdom
- Robert Foley, Cambridge University, United Kingdom
- Siobhán Cully, University of New Mexico, USA
- Janet Kelso, Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology, Germany
- Jeffrey Altschul, Coalition for Archaeological Synthesis, USA
A Milestone for Research
HEIRS represents a unique hub for fostering collaboration and data synthesis, both at local and global scales, to unravel humanity’s past. This opening symposium will not only showcase HEIRS’ mission but also encourage new collaborations and critical reflections in the field of human evolution.
Open to the Public
The opening and closing sessions of the symposium will be open to the general public, with no registration required.
