Undergraduate degree: Cultural Heritage and Archaeology
Archaeology, History and Art History scientific areas have a long tradition at Universidade do Algarve, sustained by the scientific, social and touristic interest in Southern Portugal’s archaeological, historic and artistic heritage.
This degree is a reply to that interest, but also an incentive to its development and expansion.
Postgraduate degree: Digital and Field Archaeology
In this course, students have the opportunity to explore the main tools used in digital archaeology, such as Geographic Information Systems, 3D scanners, total stations and photogrammetry, to collect, interpret and visualize archaeological data more accurately and efficiently.
Master degree: Archaeology
The first aspect has to do with understanding the 2nd cycle in archeology as the graduate’s specialization in a specific theme within this scientific field (or in its “branches” of History, Anthropology, Cultural Heritage, etc., or of Earth Sciences); the second derives from the State’s (General Direction of Cultural Heritage) formal requesites to authorize the direction of archaeological research only to Masters in archeology; finally, the third aspect is inherent to the scientific production, ie, promoting the development of novel and original scientific work and thus, the development of research.
Doctorate degree: Archaeology
The Ph.D. in Archeology aims to develop skills for both basic and applied scientific research in this scientific field and its multidisciplinary connections, leading to the elaboration of an independent and original scientific work that targets the development of knowledge in this domain.
Open Course: Gorongosa Interdisciplinary Field School in Human Evolution
The Gorongosa Interdisciplinary Field School in Human Evolution offers a distinctive interdisciplinary learning opportunity, encompassing training in primatology, paleoanthropology, archaeology, geology, speleology, and ecology within the vibrant ecosystem of Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique.
