Research Interests

I am interested in Middle Palaeolithic archaeology of the Iberian Peninsula and Neanderthal occupation and adaptation strategies in the center of this territory. I focus on Neanderthal cognitivity, mobility and technological adaptation through the study of lithic raw materials.

Short Bio

Undergrad and Master’s degree at University of Porto (2007/2012). During that time received a Merit Grant and Incentive Award from the same University. Started research with an FCT BII – Initiation to Research Grant and an IJUP – Young Researchers Pluridisciplinary Projects - Santander Totta Bank grant to perform archaeometric studies of glass beads and metallic artifacts from Bronze Age Castro de Palheiros site (Portugal) as a junior researcher in CEAUCP under the supervision of Professor Mª de Jesus Sanches.
Between 2013 and 2015 worked at MAR - Museo Arqueológico Regional (Madrid-Spain) with a Bourse d’aide spécifique (specific support grant) by Casa de Velázquez – Académie de France à Madrid, worked in the University of Algarve under an FCT research grant “The last Neanderthals and the emergence of Modern Human in the Southwest of the Iberian Peninsula” and received the Elizabeth Bartman Museum Internship Fund from the Archaeological Institute of America for an internship at MAR.
Currently I am a PhD student at UAlg and a visitor student at MAR Research Area with an FCT grant since 2015 and a Wenner-Gren Foundation Dissertation Fieldwork Grant since 2017 studying lithic raw materials from Pinilla del Valle Middle Palaeolithic sites (Spain).
